Les jeux sont faits: rien ne va plus!
I follow Facebook’s (now Meta), technological evolution since some years. In 2019, I noticed a sudden change happening at board level. What happened then, in my opinion, was the beginning of a story which ended a couple days ago: the story of Mark Zuckerberg wanting to become the banker of the World.
After Jan Koum’s depart from the board of the Company, Facebook has set up a top blockchain consortium, gathering, among others, some credit card companies who decided to chip in because of crypto-FOMO (Lybra).
Then, those companies, started realizing Zuckerberg’s potential “coup de théâtre”: directly and digitally connecting his platforms’ users with his cryptocurrency. “Et ,voilà!”: who needs credit cards anymore!
When that happened, the congregated “turkeys” saw Thanksgiving Day approaching very fast. Some million dollars later, they decided to leave the table, allowing themselves a few more “run-for-your-life” years, before definitely succumbing to DeFi.
The new reality didn’t discouraged Mark Zuckerberg, a true start-upper, from trying to achieve his Lybra’s objective: to become the bank of the World! Therefore, after debriefing with his team, the Diem Association was born.
Today, we are announcing the end of the Diem Association.
What about Meta’s future, then?
In my opinion, Meta will transform its interstellar amount of data, gathered throughout all this years - courtesy of its platforms’ users — into a metaverse where to keep business as usual.
The big question is: will the users follow Zuckerberg in his private and lucrative (only for him and stockholders), centralized Meta-verse or not?
In the first case, business as usual for Meta e.g.: keep on inflating “those guys” bank accounts.
Otherwise, social media users might discover the economical value that Web3 and decentralized metaverses confers to their own data and decide to monetize themselves instead of Zuck.
As simple as that: “Rien ne va plus: les jeux sont faits!”
